An evidence-based, field-tested program, A Matter of Balance has been shown to be highly effective in reducing the fear of falling and increasing activity levels among older adults.
8 Sessions
Two times a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3, beginning September 9th
Who should attend Matter of Balance?
The program is designed to benefit older adults who:
- Are concerned about falls
- Have sustained falls in the past
- Restrict activities because of concerns about falling
- Are interested in improving flexibility, balance and strength
- Are age 60 or older, community-dwelling and able to problem solve
What do participants learn?
The program enables participants gain confidence by learning to:
- View falls as controllable
- Set goals for increasing activity levels
- Make changes to reduce fall risk at home
- Exercise to increase strength and balance
Instructors:
Tracy Bocarde Sprauer has been involved with Methow At Home and fall prevention education for the last five years. With nearly thirty years of experience in bodywork education and the nonprofit sector she brings a holistic and whole hearted approach to her facilitation. Tracy trained to be a Matter of Balance coach in 2023 and appreciates being part of this cognitive and behavioral aspect of preventing falls.
Erin Cass has over 25 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit sector, with a strong focus on aging services, community health, and program development. For the past six years, she has owned and operated Healthy Aging, a small business dedicated to promoting wellness among older adults. Through contracts with the Washington State Department of Health and Aging and Adult Care of Central Washington, Erin delivers evidence-based fall prevention programs across Lincoln, Adams, Okanogan, Grant, Chelan, and Douglas counties. She serves as a board member of the Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center and sits on the advisory board for the Old Friends Club in Wenatchee, demonstrating her deep commitment to supporting older adults in her community.
