How to Save Democracy Workshop with Ryan Teague Beckwith - Event registration - HERE
Live Zoom event at the Winthrop Library
Most Americans agree that U.S. democracy is in trouble, but the solutions that are typically offered seem inadequate. Using research from political science and comparisons to other countries and U.S. states, MS NOW editor and Georgetown University instructor Ryan Teague Beckwith will go over a number of workable proposals to reduce partisan polarization, restore checks and balances, and improve the functioning of the federal government.
This two-session course will look closely at the reasons for democratic dysfunction, the proposals to fix it, and the upsides and downsides of each. Friday, October 2 & Friday October 9.
In collaboration with Western Washington University’s (WWU) Western of the Methow, the Winthrop Library is expanding access to high-quality educational opportunities for residents of the Methow Valley through hybrid learning models and workshops. This partnership brings selected WWU Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) courses to the Winthrop community through facilitated hybrid viewing sessions hosted in the library’s community rooms as a library program. The goal of this partnership is to reduce geographic barriers to lifelong learning while creating a sustainable model for rural communities to access educational experiences through a state university.
